F1 Memory Pitlane

Why
During my studies in Interaction Design (HF), we were tasked with developing a storytelling project. At that time, I was working intensively with Blender and was eager to create a project that integrated 3D elements.

How
I explored various Formula 1 topics such as safety, driver achievements, and fatalities, but quickly realized that this narrowed my scope too much. Instead, I decided to compare 35 years of Formula 1 and designed an app built around a direct then-vs-now experience. I sourced various 3D models from countless libraries. Finding accurate models from 1995 proved to be a real challenge, while assets from the modern era were easier to obtain. Using Blender, I refined and staged the models to fit the concept. To introduce users to the Memory Pitlane, I created a digital living room where they could choose their starting era via a screen displaying race footage.

Result
In the end, I developed a prototype app that allows users to explore and compare 35 years of Formula 1 history. I quickly discovered the limitations of Figma when it came to building an interactive prototype—some planned features and elements couldn’t be implemented as intended. Nevertheless, I learned a lot about animating and editing 3D models throughout the process. I presented the project and received the top grade (6).
